Our Current Volunteers
John Ireland – Formerly Deputy Human Resources Director at Frimley Health NHS Trust
I started my career in Production Management with Dunlops in Liverpool and after a few years moved into Human Resources. I then spent nearly twenty years working in the commercial world in a variety of sectors including manufacturing, services and retailing before moving into the public sector for 14 years prior to retiring. I have worked in both UK and Overseas focused roles. My experience has included developing training programmes, improving performance management systems, UK and International recruitment, employee relations, dealing with TUPE transfers and managing pay and benefits.
My last role was Deputy HR Director for Frimley Health NHS Trust an organisation consisting of three hospitals and employing in excess of 10,000 people. The organisation was formed by the acquisition of Heatherwood and Wexham NHS Foundation Trust by Frimley Park NHS Foundation Trust. The acquisition took place during my final three years with Frimley and involved a substantial amount of HR work to TUPE employees, increase recruitment, merge processes and systems and improve the motivation of the staff of a failing NHS Trust. As a result of this work Frimley HR Department was awarded the overall HR Prize in the National CIPD awards for 2016 as a result of the improved employee engagement which was achieved following the takeover. For the last 2 years I was also asked to manage the in house charity and so have some knowledge of the charitable sector.
Whilst working for Frimley I became interested in Health promotion and the role that patients’ circumstances can play in keeping them healthy and wanted to become involved in this in some way. Obviously keeping warm in cold weather can contribute to keeping people healthy and less susceptible to a number of health risks.
