A volunteer and Trustee at Beat the Cold – a charitable organisation tackling fuel poverty in Staffordshire – has retired after almost 20 years’ service.
Long-standing volunteer Michaela Fyson has actively campaigned for warmer homes for decades in the local area.
A committed volunteer of the charitable organisation, she was appointed a Trustee in 2010.
Beat the Cold Chairperson, Lesley Bentley said: “From the very early days in the mid-1980s when the serious effects of cold on health and wellbeing were recognised, Michaela has had links with organisations focused on supporting people in Staffordshire to live warmer, healthier lives.
“As a charitable organisation, we have benefitted hugely from her knowledge and experience and we would like to thank her for all the work she has done both as a volunteer and as a Trustee.
“Michaela’s interests vary widely, encompassing climate change, equality, poverty, education and so much more. Everything she does is centred around creating a better world in which everyone can thrive.”
Michaela was presented with flowers and a gift donation to one of her favourite charities, Staffordshire Wildlife Trust, by the Beat the Cold Trustees and leadership team.
She said: “Starting in 1980s as a multi- agency partnership delivering winter warmth advice, which I coordinated, Beat the Cold is now acknowledged as a leading expert on the effects of cold homes on health and wellbeing.
“So much has been achieved over the last 40 years and I’m proud to have been part of the amazing work our team delivers.”
